well , not much of guidelines .
only two for this purpose to protect u from the rains :
umbrellas that hav the metal rods fixed to the fabric with stitches at intervals r stronger.
there r also those avilable wherein the metal rods that holds the fabric stretched , r just put inside some holes ( made of plastic)at the end of the fabric , these umbrellas r not good as the rods keep on cuming out of the holes as also they r weak. u open them against the rains in an open area and yr umbrella is broken , by the strong gush of winds.
secondly , it is better to buy umbrellas that hav their handles bent in a U shape , where u hold the umbrella, that gives a better grip over the umbrella .
even if yr grip is a little loose , the umbrella wl not fall off easily .
